Who we are

Akin is a discovery-only website that helps Australian home brewers find specialty coffees similar to ones they already liked. Akin links out to coffee roasters and never sells, ships, or holds stock. Akin is operated by a single founder in Australia. Contact: rafaelvonhellmann@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Email signups. If you join the weekly recommendation list or save a taste-profile handoff, we store the email address, Australian state, brew preferences, and consent flag you submit.
  • Taste activity.Coffees you rate are stored in your browser's local storage. If you submit a rating or profile handoff, a copy is stored on our systems to power recommendations.
  • First-party analytics. We set two cookies (an anonymous ID and a session ID) to count page views and clicks on roaster links. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers, and we do not store your IP address with analytics events.
  • Email interaction. If weekly emails start, they may include an open-tracking pixel and tracked links so we can tell whether the emails are useful. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties.
  • We do not run third-party ads or trackers.
  • We do not store payment details; Akin has no checkout.
  • Match rankings are never influenced by payment from roasters.

Where data lives

Data is stored with our hosting and database providers (Vercel and Supabase) and, for email delivery, Resend. Ratings you have not submitted stay in your own browser.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from emails at any time via the link in any email.
  • Clear your browser storage to remove local ratings and identifiers.
  • Email rafaelvonhellmann@gmail.com to ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted. We aim to respond within 30 days, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Roasters

Catalog information about roasters and coffees comes from public roaster websites. A roaster who wants their business removed from Akin can email rafaelvonhellmann@gmail.com and will exit the index entirely.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above will be updated. Material changes affecting email subscribers will be announced by email.
